Embracing a Cleaner Lifestyle: My Journey into Herbal Healing
My interest in herbs began as I embarked on a journey toward healing and reducing toxicity. The beginning of my awakening truly emerged after the Covid-19 pandemic led to a global shutdown in March 2020. I began questioning and reevaluating all my previous beliefs. In January of 2022, I started by throwing away my Tide pods and explore a cleaner lifestyle. I went to Whole Foods and explored the supplement aisle and bought random herbs and vitamins that I felt called to. I was really just dipping my toes in the water at this point, and found it enjoyable to openly discover new medicine. I started to do some more research and figure out what my body really needed.
This was a playful and fun experience as I started to clean up my lifestyle. Little did I know, the universe was preparing me for my biggest life transformation yet, becoming a parent. After finding out I was pregnant in August of 2022 (the same month I graduated with my professional counseling master's degree), I knew I needed to keep up learning and growing in the holistic community. I continued to do the research and learn the pregnancy safe herbs to work with and made sure I was consistent with taking them (thats when they work the best). Herbs were always a part of my pregnancy, postpartum and motherhood journey, but really held me after my second child in December of 2024 was in the NICU.
This experience was one of the hardest journeys I had to date, and the biggest ally was herbal medicine. Herbs were there for me every step of the way, and held me in ways that nothing else could. I worked with an Ayurvedic postpartum doula that helped guide me to which herbs to take and how to use herbs in/out of my body. This is when I came to the realization that herbs have changed my life for the better and I was just scratching the surface. I joined tea mediations to journey with herbs in a community setting and learn each one in great depth. This helped me learn so much about myself and heal so many parts of myself. There is so much joy that herbs bring me, and I never want to stop learning about them. Recently I have been making medicine with herbs and beauty products. Being able to share my love for herbs also brings me so much happiness. Now I teach my children how to forge herbs, grow them and make medicine, we talk multiple herbs every morning and night. Herblism has become a huge part of my life and my children's lives. I am conituning to learn and expand my knowledge, always.
